In-laws, Gardening and Star Pasta

September 17, 2012 | By More

My in-laws were in town to “see the baby” this weekend which I love because they are always so good at it.  But, I do think it is funny that both my parents and my husband’s now come over to “see the baby” and let’s face it, not to see us.

At first, I thought it was just an expression they used to mean our “family” but now I know that their words are the reality.  If my son was not here, I am certain visits by both sets would be fewer and further between.  Even my mother-in-law said on Saturday, “You didn’t know your Dad could find his way to Tampa so often now did you?”  No, we didn’t.

We will take their visits however we can though!  Not only do we adore them but four more hands to help with a very active toddler make all the difference.

In-laws LOVE this boy!

With my in-laws in town, Cristan and I had a bit more free time to garden.  Please, don’t conjure images of a cute outdoor hat, watering can or vibrant flowers fluttering in the breeze.  Our reality was pulling three foot high weeds that had seriously overtaken our yard and getting a handle on the aggressively growing bamboo.  What a job!  (But I did find a fun hat to wear)

In the middle of it all were Chico and Abe.  Those boys loved the sunshine, drug out balls and toys, were in and out of their pool a.k.a. plastic tub in the yard, and did their best to distract us from the project at hand.

Gardening with Abe

By the end of the day yesterday, I was feeding my son Sebastian pasta with carrots and peas.  Abe and Chico were flanking either side of his high chair, covered in Ronzoni stars.  Sebastian was throwing food at them as if they were dolphins at Sea World.

I looked over at my husband, who was equally as dirt covered as I was, and I couldn’t help but laugh.  If this is our reality, I’ll take it.  The dogs, the kid, the dirt and the star pasta.
