Dogs that Bark Very Little
In my house, I have one quiet non-barker, Abe and one gold medal winner in barking. That would be Chico. All dogs make vocal sounds. Some dogs bark more than others, most barking dogs can be trained to bark less and some quieter dogs bark more in stressful situations.
There are a few breeds, however, that are quieter by nature. Notable dogs that bark very little are the: Basenji, Borzoi, Chinese Sharpei, the Greyhound and the Whippet for example.
If you are considering purchasing a dog, visit the American Kennel Club site to research your desired breed and learn about their temperament.
One thing is for sure, if you do your homework, you can find a dog that is as laid back as Mr. Abe. Or, if you really want your barking dog to relax, I recommend learning a few training techniques or meet with a trainer. It will be well worth your time and money in the long run.
