Pack Mom Andrea wrote in with a great question.  She inquired about pet friendly hotels/motels in her area.  The good news is that there are so many more pet friendly hotels these days than ever before.  Entire websites are dedicated to pet travel and some hotels are really rolling out the red carpet!

A few good websites to do your pre travel research are:

Go Pet Friendly

Local and state laws do affect the options hotels can offer their canine guests.  So, make sure to call ahead and know the weight restrictions, where your pet is allowed within the hotel, leash laws, and pet friendly restaurants/bars/etc in the area.

A few  hotel chains to note are the following:

Starwood Hotels– this chain includes Westin, Sheraton, W Hotels, Four Points, aLoft and others.  Depending on the hotel and it’s location, your pet might be greeted with his own cushy bed, gourmet cookies, a beautiful collar and leash and his own set of bowls and place mat.

Choice Hotels– includes Quality Inn, Comfort Inn/Suites, Sleep Inn, Clarion, MainStay and more.  This hotel group loves pets and offer over 2,500 pet friendly locations nationwide.  Their website lists top pet friendly cities, dog parks and gives thorough pet travel tips.

Hotel Indigo– part of the Intercontinental Hotel Group– offers its visitors a boutique hotel experience and is pet friendly of course.  My husband and I were in a photo shoot with our furkid Abe a few years ago for The New Barker magazine.  We had a blast and left more than a few dog hairs on the beautiful duvet 🙂

I hope this helps you plan future travel with your furkid and have the peace of mind to know that they are welcomed!

Have fun!
